A wedding took place in Cana in Galilee. Wouldn’t you have loved to have been at the wedding with Jesus. Can’t you just imagine seeing his beautiful mother, Mary. He calls her his [1]Dear woman.
When the wine runs out, she lets Jesus know. Why? It seems obvious that she knew. She knew what He could do. And He does it. For His mother, His dear woman. What love. What a statement this makes to us, as I’m sure it did to those at the wedding. Jesus desires to serve others, especially His beloved. And He does this to reveal His glory. These miracles lead people to believe in Him – to put their faith in Him.[2]Jesus does all of this out of love for us. He doesn’t need approval of man.[3] He knows what’s in the heart of man because He knows us. He was there in the beginning.[4] Yes, He knows us. He knows whether or not we truly love Him, have received Him, and we follow Him. We’re not fooling Jesus with our church attendance, our good works, or our social justice involvement in the community. If our heart is not right with Him, He knows. He sees it. And He flips our self-constructed tables [5] right before us. Oh, we might not see it at the time, but we will. We cannot change the gospel message to fit our plans, our sinful desires. He was there in the beginning when the gospel message was written – the plan was set in place for the sacrifice to be given. He is the Word of grace and truth.[6] If the tables we have set are contrary to the Word, He is angered. Why don’t we move from them? We make excuses. But those excuses are contrary to the Word. Instead, He has built the table for those of us who have believed in Him and have received Him. He has set it before us and He welcomes us to it.[7] I want to sit at that table!
At which table are you seated?
