Coffee with Kathi ~ John, Chapter 1
John wastes no time clarifying that Jesus is God in the flesh – the very one who brought grace and truth and blessing after blessing. He refers to Jesus as the One and Only, the Lamb of God, the one who takes away the sin of the world, the Messiah.
And John makes the plan of salvation clear right from the get go. “. . . to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” There is a receiving, as well as believing – a term many want to avoid today – an act that includes repentance. And in receiving, one begins to follow. It comes naturally to those who truly believe.Jesus calls Andrew and another of John the Baptist’s disciples. They follow him. John the Baptist was only the “voice” leading the way for the Lord Jesus. It causes me to think, Is my voice leading others to the Lord Jesus?
Not only is the plan of salvation immediately presented in the Gospel of John, but we also find immediate evangelism. Andrew takes his brother, Simon, to Jesus, saying, “I have found the Messiah!” Jesus calls Philip, who immediately finds Nathaniel and says, “We have found the one about whom the prophets spoke – Jesus . . .” Nathaniel is hesitant, but Philip encourages him, “Come and see,” so he goes with his Philip and it’s not long before he declares, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God.”
You see, if we are Christ followers, then we tell others. We use our voice to say, “I have found Jesus. Come and see!” Then we let Jesus do His work!
Maybe you have believed [1] but not truly received the finished work of Jesus on the cross – His plan of salvation for you. It’s not too late. Receive Him today. [2] Learn more about receiving Jesus: https://kathiwaligora.com/become-a-believer/
