Ron was hoping to see ranches, but Texas is a BIG state and there weren’t very many ranches this far north, in the panhandle. We did see a few, and I was fascinated with their old windmills.. catching pics of all I could see along the road.
We could often see Route 66 running parallel to the Interstate. Any time we could get onto the actual Mother Road was good. We tried. And in New Mexico, we had opportunity several times.
Still in Arizona, we continued traveling west on Route 66 (literally I-40, but I like to know it’s as close to the original Mother Road as we can get!), hoping to reach Grants, New Mexico before dark.

When we left Needles, California on that beautiful morning ( see my last post) of course we entered Arizona immediately. Desert all the way.

You’ve heard it. Even if it was before your time, which it probably was.
The young wife trimmed a couple inches from the end of the whole ham before baking it in the large roasting pan. Every time. Years of this habit passed.
One day a friend asked, “Why do you do this?”
Not the park, of course! But not being able to visit the park – that’s what was so disappointing.
It was hot! 100 degrees plus all day long.
How many beans could a woodchuck eat if a woodchuck could eat beans?
Here’s the answer to that age-old question (well, to a similar age-old question!):
Passersby stopped their cars. Some actually drove in the big circle driveway, walked up the steps to the porch, and knocked on the kitchen door.
“May we look at your flower garden?” they asked.
When I was a teenager, I had a clock radio much like the one pictured. Mine had a “snooze” button on top, which I used a lot! An analog clock is rarely used today, is it? Instead, nowadays we most often look at the digital clocks on our dashboards, ovens, and especially on our phones. Occasionally, when Ron and I are driving, we cross a time zone line, and one or both of our cell phones doesn’t “catch up!” That is confusing. Well, something similar happened to us during our time camping in the Porkies.
